Profile
Ashley Daly is Assistant Dean of Westhampton College. She is known by students and colleagues alike for being a warm and uplifting mentor, one who always seeks to create welcoming and nurturing spaces. Dean Daly meets with students to provide individual support and guidance for academic, co-curricular, and personal matters, as well as co-plans a number of celebrations, including Senior Social, the Connecting Womxn of Color Conference, and the Senior Student-Athlete reception. With the other deans, she co-advises the Westhampton College Government Association, and she serves as the Assistant Conduct Officer. Dean Daly also teaches a section of WELL 100 and serves on campus-wide committees, including the Undergraduate Admissions Committee and the Community Capability Team. She always says that supporting students is a heartfelt experience, and this is evident whether in an individual meeting or in the ways she helps build and sustain our communities and works with student groups. She loves supporting students and always wants them to feel seen and heard. Dean Daly spearheads the College’s communications initiatives.
Dean Daly earned a B.A. in Experimental Psychology with a cognate in Counseling Education and an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) in Counseling Education, Clinical Mental Health, both from the University of South Carolina. Prior to joining the Westhampton College Dean’s Office, she worked at USC, providing individual and group counseling and support to students as well as teaching communication and conflict resolution skills. Here in Richmond she also served as a resident in counseling at HeartMind Resiliency and as a behavioral therapist at Bon Secours, working closely with patients and their families, as well as collaborating on continuity of care and working with community resources.
Dean Daly has lived throughout the U.S., including Florida, Kentucky, Nevada, Ohio, Virginia, and South Carolina. While at USC she was a member of Gamma Phi Sorority and Chi Sigma Iota, where her love of mentorship and academic and personal counseling began. In Richmond she lives with her partner and beloved rescue dog Toby, who is likely an adorable mix of Chihuahua, Dachshund, Terrier, and Corgi. Dean Daly loves a good dad joke (or any cheesy joke); for some reason, she is sadly unable to whistle. She loves cooking, fishing, being in the great outdoors, and listening to podcasts, is always up for taking a new exercise class, and enjoys finding new activities to try in Richmond!
